Is being listed worth it? The data says it is
Commentators keep suggesting public companies are doomed, so here are three tests comparing public and private companies in Australia: access to capital, survival rates, and cost. On the data, you are still probably better off being listed.

Over the past month, I have noticed a theme in the AFR that reads something like this: "public companies are doomed".
Whilst I know that many of you bemoan the red tape and criticism that comes with being public, I have also repeatedly said that, for many listed companies, they simply wouldn't exist if it weren't for public money.
In this piece, I'm rehashing an old article with some new data to explore just what that looks like in 2024. Because, despite how hard 2024 has been for the majority of ASX companies, you're still probably better off being listed.
